Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) is one of the most reputed private technical institute of India carrying the glorious history of more than half a century, still contributing hugely to the engineering field of the country. This institute probably does not need any explanation to show its success. It’s name itself has become a sign of excellence in the mind of Indians. BITS Pilani has established its stone of reputation in such a way that many people have the misconception of considering the institute as an India Government funded institute. BITS Pilani has been established by late Mr G.D.Birla – an eminent industrialist, a participant in Indian freedom struggle and a close associate of the Father of Indian Nation late Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi). BITS Pilani has the affiliation from many accrediting bodies like Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), University Grants Commission (India) (UGC), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
BITS Pilani enrolls its students every year in all the campuses for Integrated First Degree Programmes (B.Tech) through an all India Computer based online test, known as BITSAT (BITS Admission Test). Admission is merit-based, as assessed by the BITSAT examination. BITS Pilani also conducts separate all India online test to enroll M.Tech students. PhD enrollments are taken at individual institute level through written and interview process.
